Since moving to northern British Columbia in 1998 I have had many encounters with both Black and Grizzly bears, and one Kermode Spirit bear in the distance. Fortunately none have them have threatened my life. I always have an escape plan and telephoto lenses reduce risk. I do travel with bear spray, never used during my bear meetings, and I use bear bells when hiking. I also have carried bear bangers. They are dangerous animals . Maybe luck has been on my side.
